Bio:
Halfdan Hauge (1892–1976) was a Norwegian painter and draughtsman from Svolvær who lived on Svinøya throughout his life. Self-taught, he worked as a cooper and shoemaker in his younger years. Painting became a more central occupation after the Second World War, and he made his debut at the North Norwegian Art Exhibition in 1952. Using bold brushwork and lively colours, he depicted life in old Lofoten, drawing on memories of his childhood and youth. His works are held in collections in Bodø, Svolvær and Stockholm, among others.
