Rya carpet in pure wool with a dense, long pile and a geometric pattern in red, orange, cream and dark grey tones. The composition is centred around a light rectangular field, surrounded by a broad patterned border and a deep red outer field.

Origin: Sweden.
Material: Pure wool.
Dimensions: L. 96 cm incl. fringes, W. 64 cm.
Period: Circa 1970s.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.

Bio:
Rya is a traditional Nordic weaving technique in which wool knots are tied onto a woven foundation to create a dense, soft pile. In Sweden, rya was further developed throughout the 20th century and became a significant part of modern Swedish textile design. During the 1960s and 70s, geometric patterns, strong colour contrasts and pure wool were characteristic features of many Swedish rya carpets.
