Rya carpet in pure wool with a dense pile and a stylised geometric pattern in cream, dark grey, black, green, red and purple tones. The composition combines elongated linear forms with a more complex abstract motif to one side. Finished with light fringes at both ends.

Origin: Sweden.
Material: Pure wool.
Dimensions: L. 156 cm including fringes, W. 73 cm.
Period: Circa 1970s.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.

Bio:
Rya is a traditional Nordic weaving technique in which wool knots are tied onto a woven foundation to create a characteristic pile. In Sweden, the technique was further developed throughout the 20th century and became prominent in modern textile design. During the 1960s and 70s, Swedish rya carpets were often produced in pure wool with abstract and geometric patterns and pronounced contrasts between natural tones and stronger accent colours.
