Bio:
Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was a Finnish designer, sculptor and graphic artist and a central figure in post-war Finnish design. He began working with Iittala in 1946 after winning the glassworks’ design competition and remained associated with the company until his death. Wirkkala worked across materials including glass, wood, porcelain and metal and frequently drew inspiration from the Finnish landscape. His glass designs are particularly recognised for their organic forms and textured surfaces recalling ice, frost and structures found in nature.
