Bio:
Royal Copenhagen was founded as the Danish Porcelain Manufactory in 1775. The Flora Danica service was begun around 1790 with botanical motifs derived from the monumental Danish botanical work of the same name. Johann Christoph Bayer (1738–1812) decorated most of the original service, which was completed in 1802. Flora Danica was later returned to production and continues to be made with hand-painted botanical motifs and gilding.
