Abstract composition executed in oil on board with bold geometric fields of coral red, blue, green, black and white. The work is signed lower left and reflects Wernhedens development towards a more abstract visual language around the 1960s.

Bio:
Stig Henry Wernheden (1921–1997) was a Swedish painter and graphic artist from Limhamn. He initially worked as a chemist before studying art under Arwid Karlson and Helge Nielsen at the Essem School in Malmö from 1948 to 1953. His artistic development was further influenced by study travels through France, Spain, Italy, Yugoslavia, Austria and Switzerland. Wernheden worked in oil and watercolour as well as woodcuts and linocuts. His early work included realistic still lifes, figures and landscapes, while from the late 1950s his visual language increasingly moved towards abstraction. He exhibited at venues including Krognoshuset in Lund and galleries in Limhamn and Malmö.
