Bio:
Nils Bäcklin (1913–1989) was a Swedish painter who studied under Isaac Grünewald and Edvin Ollers in Stockholm, as well as Fernand Léger in Paris. His work merged Swedish modernist traditions with international postwar influences, often emphasizing expressive figuration, simplified forms, and strong compositional colour. Active in numerous exhibitions from the 1940s onward, Bäcklin is associated with mid-century Swedish modernism and is recognized for works balancing figurative subject matter with progressive abstraction.
