Bio:
Monique Beucher (born 1934) is a French artist best known for her textile art, but she has also worked with painting as an important part of her artistic practice. In her paintings, she carries forward many of the ideas developed through her work with weaving and fibers.
Her paintings are typically abstract and characterized by a strong sense of structure, rhythm, and color. One can often see how her background in textiles influences the expression, as surfaces may appear almost fabric-like and compositions resemble woven patterns. The brushwork and construction of the pictorial surface create a sense of layering and materiality that echoes her textile works.
Although she is best known for her textiles, her paintings demonstrate how she works across media, exploring the same artistic themes in different forms. They are therefore an important part of her overall artistic expression.
