The Royal Vajsenhus was inaugurated in 1727 on Nytorv. The building burned down in 1728 during the Great Fire of Copenhagen. A new building was erected, and it was rebuilt again in 1765. However, in 1795 the building burned down again during the next city fire, and all activities were then dispersed around the city.
