25 years ago this painting was sold at Auktionshuset Nellemann & Thomsen, Aarhus. At that time, all museums in the city were made aware of this unique work, but they chose not to buy it, and the work was sold to Germany, from where it has now returned.
Exhibited: The painting was part of the exhibition “Fairy Tales of a Lifetime - With Hans Christian Andersen through Picturesque Europe” which was on display at the Altonaer Museum, Hamburg and Museumsberg Flensburg in 2005. The exhibition, which in Danish was called “Journey through Picturesque Europe”, consisted of a collection of paintings by Danish artists who portrayed parts of Europe from periods when Hans Christian Andersen also visited the places in question.
