A charming prospect of Copenhagen’s Town Hall (the former neoclassical town hall located at Nytorv, built 1803–1815 after drawings by the architect C. F. Hansen, demolished in the 1890s). The scene depicts the square in front of the Town Hall with people in period dress, horse-drawn carriages, and a lively urban atmosphere. The work was drawn by the English officer and traveller Lieutenant Colonel Robert Batty (1789–1848), renowned for his detailed prospects of European cities, and engraved by E. L. Roberts.
