Biography:
Henry John Yeend King was a British artist known for his idyllic landscapes and genre scenes, often featuring young women in rural settings.
Born in London on August 21, 1855, Yeend King began his career as a stained glass painter but later turned to painting. He studied under William Bromley in England and later with Léon Bonnat and Fernand Cormon in Paris, where he was influenced by the French plein-air technique and Impressionism. His works combine realistic detail with a soft, atmospheric style.
Yeend King was an active exhibitor and a member of several art institutions, including the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, where he later became vice president. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and received recognition both in Britain and internationally. His painting Milking Time was acquired by the Tate Gallery in 1898 under the Chantrey Bequest.
