Biography:
Göran Hellberg was a Swedish artist and art educator who played a central role in the Gothenburg art scene from the late 1960s onward.
He was a co-founder of KVs Art School (KVs Konstskola) in Gothenburg in the late 1960s. As a teacher, he combined a strong understanding of art history and tradition with an ability to inspire new generations of artists.
His own artistic practice was marked by a lifelong exploratory expression. This was evident in a retrospective memorial exhibition, which included around one hundred works and a slideshow, offering a nuanced picture of an artist who rarely exhibited his work publicly.
Hellberg’s works range from abstract compositions to more figurative subjects. Titles such as Horisontellt Vertikalt IV, Ruta upp och ruta ner, and Dalahäst suggest an interest in both structural and cultural themes.
