The Ox Chair lounge chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner for Erik Jørgensen in 1960. The same year as the chair was produced, it was introduced at a furniture fair in Milan. Here it immediately stood out, and people admired it especially for its sophisticated construction - it was clear that it was a true design classic. The first versions of the Ox Chair, due to the complex upholstery, however, the chair was only successfully put into production in 1989. This happened after one of Erik Jørgensen's trips to Italy, where he discovered a new technique at the manufacturer Pirelli. After this, the Ox Chair was produced and made with block foam, and later molds became part of the production at Erik Jørgensen. The chair stands out and has a very prominent and dominant design, which deviated from the principles that Hans J. Wegner had been taught, when he was studying at the School of Crafts. The name "Ox Chair" or "Ox Stol" itself is clearly inspired by the masculine design and the horn-like headrest. The large chair seat rests on a delicate chrome-plated steel frame, which forms the chair's legs. Ox Chair is available in many different leathers and fabric types. It has welt stitching on the arm and headrest. At the same time that Hans J. Wegner designed the Ox Chair, he was also working on a similar project; namely the Queen Chair. The chair's design is almost identical to the Ox Chair, however the difference is that the Queen Chair does not have the horn-like headrest.
