The Kai Nielsen Chess set is produced by Bing & Grondahl in 1914. Height 9-14 cm. The theme is Richard Lionheart , King of England 1189-1199. In his third crusade in 1190 he went to the Holy Land to regain Jerusalem from Saladin, but after a series of glories victories the luck changed. The Army was caught by bad weather and suffered from illness and diseases and the Leadership of King Richard was challenged by rivals. On the way back his army of a few hundred knights liberated the city of Jaffa, which was under siege by the Saracens. After that a ceasefire was established with Saladin, which enabled Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem. Aladdin - Alladin
