Aluminia Art Pottery The Jungle Series by Nils Thorsson

Description:

Royal Copenhagen Aluminia Faience
Jungle Royal Copenhagen Faience 5008-5016- Jungle Bowl
The Jungle- series was created by Nils Thorsson at Aluminia in the early 1930s. Some of the forms were created by Hans Henrik Hansen. The series were presented at the World Fair in Paris 1932 to an exiceted audience. It was called stoneware, but was in reality chamotte with a leed glaze. A list of forms and decoration numbers is found in the Aluminia files and the painters came from the faience department of Aluminia. So even though it has the charateristic three wavy lines of Royal Copenhagen there is no doubt that it is an Aluminia product. The series includes bowls, jars, pitchers, dishes and vases with dark brown exotic underglaze decoration of wild animals, palms, agaves, cactus, large leaves, Africans and Bedouins etc. There is also 17 of the Jungle forms has been decorated with a turquoise glaze.
