Item no.:440398
Description:
Height 9 cm.Width 7.5 cm.
Early miniature portrait of Frederik the 4th of Holsten-Gottorp.
He lived from 1671 to 1702. He was in direct family with the Danish regent via his mother, Frederikke Amalie of Denmark, who was the daughter of Frederik the 3rd of Denmark and Norway. Frederik the 4th by Holsten Gottorp chose a more protectionist approach to the duchy and chose an alliance with Sweden's Charles the 12th, who was his cousin and brother-in-law when Denmark occupied the duchy in 1700. Sweden's surprise attack on Zealand forced Denmark to a quick surrender and acceptance of the sovereignty of the duchy.
The picture is in very fine condition and seen in a patinated brass frame.
It is signed "Bürger" on the edge.
