Ludvig Ditlev Simon Simonsen (1841-1928) is a well-listed artist. Known for his horses and dog portraits. He started out as a student of his father Niels S. Simonsen and went to the Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen in 1855-60. Thereafter he studied under Auguste Bonheur in Paris and in Chevreuse. He also visited Rome, South Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium. He received several times Neuhausen's and the Academy's prize and the Ancker scholarship in 1881. He was a Charlottenborg painter. He is represented at Copenhagen City Museum, the Museum at Koldinghus, Fredensborg museum, Bornholm, Horsens and Aarhus' Museum. Simon Simonsen joined like his father the group of artist called the Europeans who worked between the two Slesvig wars. He was a naturalist and was especially fond of animal motifs.
