Soren Kongstrand was an autodidact potter. In 1907 he began to experiment with ceramic, attempts that he as a rich businessman had the opportunity to pay for. In 1911 he made his debut at the Fall Exhibition.
SK was a magician who worked with a material he sometimes found difficult to tame, but perhaps therefore resulting in works that exudes a particular strength. It was a goal for SK to get the glaze to resemble nature's strength, eg. rime frost, gull eggs and the like. Kongstrand was especially famous for his luster glazes.
