The blue border on the Princess service made in 1978 resembles a Princess' tiara. The border is taken from a section of the complicated Blue Fluted service from the edge on the half lace version. The border is painted freehand as is the pattern on the fluted surface. This is also done on the most exclusive version of Blue Fluted - the full lace version.
