Lladro was founded in 1953 by brothers Juan, José and Vicente Lladró in Almàssera near Valencia, Spain. The company developed from a small ceramics workshop into an internationally recognised porcelain manufacturer, particularly renowned for its figurative sculptures and refined craftsmanship. During the 1960s and 70s, Lladro established a distinctive design language characterised by soft pastel colours, elegant silhouettes and intricately detailed surfaces. Throughout the 1980s, the company continued to explore decorative and sculptural expressions, with female figures and portrait sculptures playing a prominent role.
