Sculptural vase in white mouth-blown glass with Alvar Aalto’s characteristic asymmetrical and undulating form. The vase belongs to the Alvar Aalto Collection, whose original glass series was designed in 1936 for the Karhula-Iittala design competition. This example is marked and retains its original Iittala sticker and original box.

Bio:
Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a Finnish architect and designer and a central figure in modern Finnish architecture and design. He graduated in architecture from Helsinki University of Technology in 1921 and worked across architecture, furniture and glass. In 1936, his series of organic glass forms won first prize in the Karhula-Iittala design competition, and the series entered production the following year. The Aalto vase subsequently became one of his best-known designs.
