Édouard Chapallaz, large unique wall relief and dish.

Large and heavy square wall relief and dish in glazed stoneware with rounded edges and a deep, slightly recessed surface. The surface has dark brown and violet tones with a prominent abstract field in muted olive green. Signed by the artist.

Bio:
Édouard Chapallaz (1921–2016) was an important Swiss ceramicist, born on 4 March 1921 in Yverdon-les-Bains. He trained as a thrower at the Swiss School of Ceramics in Chavannes-près-Renens from 1936 to 1939 and subsequently worked in the ceramics industry. From the 1950s, he developed his independent artistic practice with a particular focus on stoneware, glazes and high-temperature firing. His work is especially recognised for its sophisticated glazes, and his production encompassed vessels, unique pieces and ceramic works for architecture. Chapallaz died on 7 February 2016.
