Bio:
Joop Birker (1935–1993) was a Dutch painter, born and died in Tilburg. Active during the second half of the 20th century, he is documented by institutions including the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History and Artists of the World. His work is also represented in the collections of the Noordbrabants Museum and Vanderbilt Museum of Art. This 1963 work demonstrates an abstract vocabulary of layered fields of colour, pronounced contours and a richly worked, painterly surface.
