Meissen Blue Onion, set of two pierced side plates.

Set of two pierced porcelain side plates with hand-painted cobalt-blue decoration in the classic Blue Onion pattern and decorative woven openwork around the rim. Marked with the Meissen crossed swords, first quality.

Origin: Germany.

Bio:
The Meissen Porcelain Manufactory was founded in 1710 and is regarded as Europes first producer of hard-paste porcelain. The famous Blue Onion pattern was introduced around 1739 and became one of the manufactorys most iconic decorations. Meissen often combined its hand-painted cobalt-blue decoration with demanding porcelain techniques such as openwork, demonstrating the manufactorys high level of craftsmanship.
