Using the Royal Copenhagen Stoneware Studio's classically inspired works as its point of departure, this publication presents, for the first time, the rich variety of glaze effects from the perspective of decades of close personal engagement with these objects. Chemical formulas and technical terminology have been deliberately omitted in favor of a direct appreciation of the glazes' visual and tactile qualities.
The catalogue is organized into thirteen sections, each devoted to a specific type of glaze and introduced by a brief explanatory text. The book's main essay examines the almost magical qualities of ceramic glazes, exploring the origins of their optical and tactile effects, the significance of nature as a source of inspiration, the decorative potential of technical irregularities, the creation of visual contrasts, and the dynamic physical relationship between the ceramic body and the glaze.
