Axel Salto (1889–1961) was one of Denmark’s most significant artists, ceramicists and designers. His work ranged from avant-garde art to ceramic masterpieces, and he became especially renowned for his organic forms and experimental glazes. For Royal Copenhagen, he created works that united artistic innovation with Danish porcelain tradition, and his designs are regarded among the most important in Scandinavian design history.
