Italian alabaster, box from the 1940s.
Square lidded box in alabaster with striking multicoloured veining in brown, beige and cream tones. Finished with an elegant brass band that emphasises the classic Art Deco aesthetic.
Origin: Italy.
Material: Alabaster and brass.
Dimensions: H. 5 cm, D. 10 cm.
Period: 1940s.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.
Bio:
Italian alabaster production has for centuries been centred around Volterra in Tuscany. In the 20th century, particularly during the Art Deco period, alabaster was widely used for decorative objects where the material’s natural colour variations and translucency were highlighted through geometric forms and the use of metals such as brass.
