Bio:
Gustaf Börtner (1905–1985) was a Swedish painter associated with modernism. He studied in Copenhagen under Folmer Bonnén and later in Stockholm with Isaac Grünewald, a key figure in introducing French modernism to Scandinavia. Börtner worked with landscapes, coastal scenes and forest interiors, often characterised by strong colours and an expressive visual language. In his early career he signed works as “Zandt” or “Andersson-Zandt” before adopting the name Börtner in the late 1940s. His works are represented in collections such as Bollnäs Museum and Kristianstad Museum.
