Large stoneware vase with a cylindrical form and characteristic double glaze in black and grey tones with a lively, lightly crackled surface. A strong example of Hammershøi’s monumental design language and experimental glaze work from the 1930s. Marked on the base.

Bio:
Svend Hammershøi (1873–1948) was a Danish ceramicist and sculptor, known for his work at Kähler in Næstved. He is regarded as one of the most important figures in Danish ceramics in the early 20th century. Hammershøi is especially recognised for his simple, monumental forms and refined glazes, which have had a lasting influence on Danish ceramic tradition.
