Bio:
Henry Heerup (1907–1993) was a Danish sculptor, painter and printmaker and one of the most widely recognised figures in Danish modern art. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen from 1927 to 1932, he later became associated with the artist groups Linien and Høst and with the international CoBrA movement. Heerup is particularly known for his imaginative and colourful imagery featuring cyclists, animals and lovers, as well as for his sculptures and assemblages made from found materials. His work combines spontaneity, humour and symbolic storytelling and played an important role in popularising graphic art in Denmark.
