Bio:
Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was one of Finland’s most influential twentieth-century designers. He worked extensively for Iittala and gained international recognition for his work in glass, silver, wood, and graphic design. Wirkkala received several major international awards, including the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1951 and 1954. The Ultima Thule series, introduced in 1968, remains one of his most iconic designs and exemplifies his technical innovation in textured glass surfaces.
