Deruta mosaic jar with handle and lid in majolica made in Umbria, Italy. Motif depicting Empress Theodora, Emperor Justinian's Byzantine wife from the sixth century, later canonized by the Eastern Orthodox Church as Saint Theodora. The mosaic design is engraved by hand, directly on the vase, instead of small attached pieces. On the back a motif With a colourful peacock. The item has a very colorful expression with a metallic surface. Appears in good condition. Factory mark on the bottom. H. 33.5 cm including lid.
