Bio:
Hans Bernhardt “Bamse” Kragh-Jacobsen (1913–1992) was a Danish painter, jazz pianist, and restaurateur, and the brother of artist Svend Kragh-Jacobsen. In 1933 he studied at the Reimann-Schule in Berlin and painted his first nonfigurative work in 1940. He debuted at the Artists’ Autumn Exhibition in 1945 and co-founded the artist group Linien II in 1947. He created concrete works such as the relief Hommage à Piet Mondrian (1947, Esbjerg Art Museum) and later developed a visual style with strong colors, circles, and lines. Alongside his artistic career, he ran well-known Copenhagen establishments such as Tokanten (from 1945) and Vingården (1956–79).
