Pair of Candlesticks, Svend Hammershøi, Kähler, Denmark, c. 1930s.

Two low, round ceramic candlesticks with broad bases and shallow holders. Glazed in a vivid orange uranium glaze with finely incised decoration forming a sunburst-like pattern. Both candlesticks signed underneath with HAK (Herman A. Kähler)

A characteristic pair of candlesticks from Svend Hammershøi’s work for Kähler – decorative and functional objects executed in a typical uranium glaze of the period.

Bio: Svend Hammershøi (1873–1948) was one of Denmark’s most prominent ceramicists, associated with the Kähler workshop from 1893 until his death. He is known for his powerful forms, often combined with strong-colored glazes – including uranium glazes in green and orange. His works are today highly sought-after collector’s items and an important part of Danish ceramic history.
