Description:

Åke Holm, Sweden.
Woodcut, The Apostles Peter and Andrew, 1970s.

A biblical subject depicting two male figures – identified as the apostles Peter and Andrew – standing by a balustrade decorated with fish motifs. The stark contrast of black and white surfaces highlights Holm’s characteristic reduction of form, combining monumental simplicity with symbolic depth. The fish motif alludes to the Gospel of Matthew (4:19), where Christ calls the brothers to become “fishers of men.”
