Kaj Franck (1911–1989) was one of Finland’s most influential designers and a leading figure in 20th-century Nordic design. He served for many years as the artistic director at Arabia and designed glassware for Nuutajärvi Glassworks, where he created iconic pieces rooted in functionalism, simplicity, and democratic design ideals. Franck believed that good design should be accessible to all, and his style emphasized purity and balance.
The Luna series, created in the 1960s for Nuutajärvi, showcases Franck’s more artistic and experimental side. The series features hand-blown glass bowls and plates distinguished by bold colors and clean, circular forms. Luna stands apart from his typically minimalist output with its vivid color palette and sculptural expression. Each piece in the Luna series was produced in limited quantities, making them highly sought after by collectors today.
