Blue Flower is one of Royal Copenhagen's oldest dinnerware sets, from 1779. It later got the decoration number 10. This practice regarding marking begins Royal Copenhagen at in 1890. Until then, the porcelain is only stamped with waves and painters signature.

Throughout the 1860s, Denmark has become a more national and rich country, due to the industrial revolution and the surrender of the duchies in 1864, so that more people bought Danish, rather than imported goods, for the new fortunes that had been created in these years. Consequently, the need arises at Royal Copenhagen to label their goods with model numbers, as the customers no longer bought a whole dinnerware set at one time, but bought smaller portions and therefore had to be able to identify sizes for the next purchase.

All eight plates were painted by Anthon Larsen, who was employed as a blue painter from December 17, 1853 to September 8, 1877.
